Educational Seminar - Speaker Resumes

John Nichols, an engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the Life Sciences Industry, is currently Director of Pharmaceutical Technology at Foster Wheeler. In this role, he is responsible for global coordination of technology knowledge exchange while providing consultancy for specific projects. Prior to this, Nichols was Engineering Director for Extract Technology Ltd. (a manufacturer of a wide variety of containment equipment), and Manager of Pharmaceutical Engineering for Foster Wheeler Reading Office where he was responsible for staff involved in the design of bulk pharmaceuticals, bio-chemicals, and secondary finishing facilities. In addition, his experience also includes facilitating and coordinating multi-nationality teams, and production management in a manufacturing environment. He has particular expertise in the field of high containment.

He has presented at numerous ISPE events on the subjects of containment, risk, and innovation and has organized a number of seminars. He is a member (past Chairman) of the ISPE European Education Committee, and part of the Steering Group (European Technical Advisor) on the BPC/API Baseline® Guide update. He was ISPE's Member of the Year in 2003. He is currently a Director on the International Board of ISPE.

He obtained his BSc in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London, and a Diploma in management from Thames Polytechnic, London, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.


Torsten Belger is currently employed as the General Sales Manager with Powder Systems Ltd in Liverpool, UK. He is a German National, who was educated at Universities in Germany and in the UK. Torsten is well known within the containment industry and has been closely involved in the specification, design and conceptualisation of high containment systems for the pharmaceutical industry throughout the world for more than twelve years. He has published a number of articles in leading international chemical/pharmaceutical industry publications, as well as chaired and contributed to international containment seminars and conferences run by institutions like ISPE, Concept Heidelberg, etc.


Richard Denk

Richard Denk is director of the pharma department of HECHT Anlagenbau GmbH. He offers seminars about containment, qualification, validation and hygienics in Germany as well as internationally and has already published articles about these subjects.
Furthermore Richard Denk is a speaker at national and international conferences. He also acts as author for the GMP-manual concerning containment and hygienic design. (This manual is one of the most important reference books for GMP in Europe). He is a certified expert in hygienic design, pharmaceutical engineering, auditing, quality control, qualification and validation; these qualifications being obtained from University of Sigmaringen.


Mike Davies was educated at Greenwich University in London in Business Studies. Subsequently he worked in the chemical and paint industry and for the last 15 years with Extract Technology in Huddersfield, UK. He has worked in Business Development and in Export Sales, and is now Sales & Marketing Manager.

Extract Technology are known worldwide for the supply of containment solutions to the pharmaceutical industry, particularly for their Downflow Booths used predominantly in powder sampling and dispensing/weighing. They also manufacture potent compound Isolators and Pack-Off Systems for offloading and packing off dry powdered product.


Oliver Nulty set up Containment Service Providers UK Ltd two years ago.
Before setting up his own business Oliver, a Chartered Engineer, worked for ICI, ZENECA and AstraZeneca for 31 years.

In that time his jobs included Project Management, Production Manager and Senior Engineer.
Before leaving AstraZeneca, Oliver managed the introduction of flexible containment into the Development Manufacturing Area in the Macclesfield Site.
Over the past two years he has developed an expertise in the application of Flexible containment systems into small scale manufacturing equipment and processes.
He has also developed a Containment Philosophy Model applied to manufacturing processes and a training course for Practical Approach to the application of Containment Technology.


Massimo Golia has over 20 years experience in activities related to Pharmaceutical Industry. 18 years ago he joined Pall Italia, branch of Pall Corporation. Currently he is responsible for Marketing in Biopharmaceutical Division. This position allows to him to be in contact with the newest evolution of technologies and regulations concerning filtration, separation and purification applications. He has published articles on the most important Italian Pharmaceutical magazines and he is used to present lectures to pharmaceutical manufacturers and universities. Massimo played an active role in Italian Chapter of Ispe, being in charge as responsabile of Vendor Committee. Currently is directly involved in drawing up the new edition of"Manufacturing Process Validation: Sterile Forms", Technical Manual of AFI (Italian Pharmaceutical Industry Association). On an European level he is actively involved in the working party of ECI (Eye care Industry) Interest Group.


Yann d'Aramon is General Manager Europe for Pertinence, a global leader in Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence. Pertinence's software solutions empower pharma professionals to optimize their complex manufacturing processes.

ISPE member since 2004, Yann has an extensive experience of Sales in the IT industry and - for almost 10 years- has focused on growing the Pharma business for software vendors.
Previous to joining Pertinence, Yann was at Brightrivers, a company expert in process modelling and supply chain optimization, and also worked with companies such as UCB, Roche and L'Oreal. Yann earned an MS in Engineering at ISEP, Paris.
