ISPE Turkey Affiliate's seminar entitled 'Containment' took place on March2nd 2007 in the Istanbul Chamber of Industry.

Altogether 118 people representing the industry, regulatory authorities, suppliers and the universities participated. In his opening remarks, Affiliate Chairman Dr.Ünsal Hekiman covered the term of 'pharmaceutical engineer' and emphasized the importance of the integration of the Turkish pharmaceutical industry together with all its associates into the global industry and the current trends. This was followed by information on this topic's elective course just started in Istanbul University Pharmacy Faculty by faculty dean Prof. Sarıyar and department head Prof. Araman.

In their containment presentations, John Nichols (Foster Wheeler), Connie Bird (Powder Systems), Richard Denk (Hecht Anlagenbau), Mike Davies( Extract Technologies), Oliver Nulty (Containment Service Providers) and Massimo Golla (Pall) each gave an account on subjects such as definitions, equipment, measurements, filter applications, sampling, weighing booths as they pertain to containment.

Following the containment topics, Affiliate Secretary Selim Seyhan outlined ISPE Turkey PAT Team's Road Map and the program was concluded with a presentation by Mr.d'Aramon (Pertinence) covering current topics on PAT.

To encourage student involvement, we invited 10 university pharmacy students who had a chance to informed about the industrial environment, meet people from the pharmaceutical industry and learn about new technical advancements in their profession.

There were lively discussions in the question sessions and the participants have left this event once again satisfied as they have also shown in the questionnaire formes they filled out.
